Women’s Artistic Gymnastic – Revival of a Sport Code
with Tradition in SKW
Women’s Artistic Gymnastics (WAG) is back at SKW!
In 2007 the section was expertly revived by
Ukrainian born trainer Dimitriy Lepekha.
This year the SKW Gymnastics Academy accommodates
more than 30 artistic gymnasts of the Levels 1 – 5.
They perform routines on the uneven bar, beam, vault
and floor and develop strength, coordination,
flexibility
and body control. The WAG Competition System in
Namibia is according to South African rules to
facilitate competitions.
History
Sport Klub Windhoek was founded in 1951. Already in
1953 an artistic gymnastics division was introduced
by Fritz Dietz and Sonja Enke and flourished until
the end of the 1960ies.
After a short break, WAG was er-introduced to SKW by
Edeltraut Neumeister who was the heart piece of SKW
gymnastics for 25 years. Her gymnasts were known for
remarkable results on national as well as
international level. The WAG section was closed down
in 2000, but was revived in 2007.
