SKW Fußball / Soccer - Cymot SKW NPL Team
Although playing a better season than last year
the management of SKW is not quite satisfied
with the 5th place achieved this year. Target
was to end third in the 2007/08 season. “We just
didn't convert our numerous goal opportunities.
This was our biggest handicap,” but according to
Jochen Traut (SKW committee member) there are
still plenty of things to be proud of. “We lost
only four games which is second best after
Pirates, same counts for goals conceded.
The coaching staff is rather disappointed that
no one of the SKW Team made the team for the
Cosafa cup. It just cannot be
that for instance a Shelton du Plessis,
Heribert Kapeng or Marko van Wyk aren't given
opportunities to prove themselves”. Friday, 18
July, the annual SKW NPL soccer price giving
will be held to announce the
SKW PLAYER of the season:

Cymot SKW NPL-TEAM
So close……. but yet so far
Those might be the perfect words to describe to
2007/08 NPL season for Cymot SKW. At the end it
will be said that an extra 6 points out of 22
league games might have secured the title. Cymot
SKW got off to a slow start but soon found their
rhythm and won 4 out of 5 games in the process
beating Black Africa, Orlando Pirates and Civics
FC. This propelled the Cymot boys, as a local
newspaper refers to them, to the top of the
league. They remained in the top two for 8
consecutive league matches but eventually
dropped down to 6th as a run of poor form
together with the inability to convert chances
into goals finally took its toll. The never say
die attitude, for which this team is renowned,
saw them bouncing back from the string of
disappointing results. Spectators who attended
the last two games against African Stars and
Civics FC witnessed a transformed Cymot SKW team
playing some of the best soccer in its short
Premier League history. Only some rotten luck
and some very bad officiating finally buried
their title hopes.
Although the first place is now out of their
reach they are still determined to finish among
the top three. To achieve this Cymot SKW must
win their last match. To make things even more
interesting is that fact that the opponent in
the last game is non-other than their bitter
longtime rivals Ramblers FC. The Derby will take
place at the SKW stadium on Saturday 12 July,
kick-off is scheduled for 15:00. This is the
first home game for Cymot SKW for over 2 months
and they are hoping for a strong turnout of
their loyal supporters. Since the return to the
Premier League 2 seasons ago Cymot SKW has not
managed to beat Ramblers in either league or
cup. But as we all know there is a first time
for everything! With their original target still
within reach, be sure that Cymot SKW will fight
for every inch of territory and scrap for every
second of possession to end their dry spell
against their bitter derby rivals……
expect the unexpected!

Stars, SKW draw
Submitted
by Helge Schütz Namibia Sport
Cymot SKW and African Starts played to a
goalless draw in a game of missed chances at the
Khomasdal Stadium on Saturday night. On a chilly
evening, a crowd of not much more than 100 fans
turned up to watch the match.
Stars did the early attacking with winger
Brouwers Litombo providing some good crosses,
while Edison Muheua and Ninja Karongee were
sharp in midfield. SKW’s defence held out and
they started creating chances of their own.
First they nearly opened the scoring from a
corner but the ball was scrambled away, and then
defender Ralph Ellinger missed a great chance
when he headed over the bar with an open goal
gaping. SKW captain Arend von Stryk finally
headed into the net from a rebound only to see
the goal disallowed for offside.
SKW had the better of the second half but wasted
numerous scoring opportunities. Von Stryk and
Frans van Wyk came close to scoring, only to see
Stars’ defence clearing the ball off the line on
two occasions. Stars nearly caught SKW on the
counterattack, but Kapeng saved well from Silver
Suriyari, and towards the end Kapeng once again
pulled off a fine save from a cracking freekick
by substitute Nico Andima.
SKW’s assistant coach Rolf Beiter said the
management as well as the players were
disappointed with their lack of goals.
“We had so many chances, but could not score.
It’s unbelievable. The players are a bit down
because they don’t know what to do anymore,” he
said. The result sees SKW moving up to 32 points
in fourth position – only two points behind the
leaders Orlando Pirates and Ramblers. African
Stars move up to 25 points and remain in seventh
position on the log. |
